Scripture Alone
Sola scriptura, or scripture alone, states that the Christian Bible is the sole resource for all spiritual matters. This means that the way to Heaven, how to please God, how to live a godly life, the meaning of life, and the character of the Living God are all taught in the Bible, as well as many other things; furthermore, these Biblical truths are infallible and the perfect and only standard of spiritual truth. Sola scriptura also states that although Jesus and the Apostles did and taught many other things, what is in the Bible is deemed sufficient by God and should never be added to or taken away from. During a Secret Church session, Pastor David Platt said that the Bible is like gravity. Issac Newton didn’t create gravity when he saw the apple fall- he discovered it. The compilation of law, songs, history, and letters that make up the Bible were discovered over time, because before time was time, God sovereignly deemed them perfect. I say this to remind skeptics that the Bible was made by human hands, but their hands were guided by the Almighty God.
All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work- 2 Timothy 3:16
