“Lord I Need You”
“Lord, I Need You”
Lord, I come, I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
Without You I fall apart
You’re the One that guides my heart
Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
Where sin runs deep Your grace is more
Where grace is found is where You are
And where You are, Lord, I am free
Holiness is Christ in me
Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
Teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way
And when I cannot stand I’ll fall on You
Jesus, You’re my hope and stay
Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
You’re my one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
We need God. Go back and read this song again. See how many times ‘I need You’ is in there. Really, go look. How many did you get? I got 14. This song is called “Lord I need You” and it is written by Matt Maher.
Let’s walk through this song. First of all, it says I come and confess and find rest. Matthew 11:28 says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” This verse perfectly fits this part of the song. We just need to go to God and tell him we need rest. Think about what you need to confess to God so you will find rest. The next verse (Matthew 11:29) says this: “take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” We should have no fear confessing to God. He is gentle, humble, considerate, loving, and so many other things.
Okay now for the chorus, in the chorus alone it says “I need You” four times. Answer this question: Why do you think Matt Maher wants to say this so many times? Really think about this, what does it mean to need God? We need him every minute of every hour of every day.
In the next part of the song, it says “where grace is found is where you are.” John 1:14: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” Jesus is FULL of grace. So when we find grace, Jesus is there. Some people might think that because we need God, we are captive. That is not true we have freedom in Christ. When we are in Christ, we shouldn’t feel like slaves. We should feel free in him.
The last section we will discuss talks about we can fall on God when we can’t do it anymore. When you are too tired, too confused, when you are tempted, when you are sinning- we can go to God. Read Matthew 11:28-29 again from above.
Go listen to this song. Listen to Matt Maher sing and think about what we just talked about and what it means. We really truly need God and we are weak on our own.
