The Lion of Judah
From this Name we can see Jesus as both our high priest and our reigning King. He, in Hebrews 7, is compared to the priest Melchizedek out of the tribe of Judah, and his lineage from David shows his royal power.
He is called a Lion because he came first as a lamb to be slain for the sins of the world, but next he will come as a lion ready to defeat Satan. In Revelation 5, John sees a vision of a lamb who was revered in heaven for having saved the world and made priests of many to prepare for the end times. This name in Genesis is used to show the power of the line of Judah and the power they will have for all of time.
Judah is said to be like a crouched lion ready to pounce, and a lion cub that is still maturing and growing its self.
The Bible is so cool because we see this name traced all the way from Old Testament prophecies like Genesis 49:9-10, to Revelation 5 never losing it’s significance.
The Lion of Judah shows that Jesus came like King David in the Ild Testament as well as like Melchizedek, the high priest of Judah. Both roles are equally important for Christ. Right now he acts as our priest, admonishing and teaching us in His perfect law. However, one day he will return fierce like a lion ready for battle.
